For Beth, yoga is pure joy: an opportunity to uncover hidden connections and to watch the boundaries of what is possible melt steadily away. After completing her foundational yoga training under Corina Benner and Jill Manning at Wake Up Yoga, in Philadelphia, Beth opened Yogawood in Collingswood and Riverton, NJ. In spite of the Delaware River boundary, Philadelphia Magazine named
Yogawood “Best Yoga Studio” in 2010. It’s there that Beth teaches and regularly takes classes, trains teachers, leads kirtan, and celebrates the community that is continually forming. Now a Certifed Jivamukti Yoga Teacher, Beth was honored with the opportunity to study this potent practice directly with her chosen teachers, the method’s Co-Founders, Sharon Gannon and David Life, along with Jules Febre. Taking class with her? Expect to chant, breathe, move with energetic purpose, and feel connected to something bigger and more ancient than yourself. Jai!

Three Musicians converging on an epic plateau of sound and reflex. Three conscious minds communicating on sub-conscious levels. New York City’s CONSIDER THE SOURCE is the fourth voice, produced when the trio’s three distinct personalities combine forces to share their inner music freely with each other.

Toting the loaded description Sci-Fi Middle Eastern Funk, their sound is a melting pot of Middle Eastern scales, psychedelic jams, and a hard rocking rhythm section. Featuring Gabriel Marin on Fret-Less Double Neck Guitar, John Ferrara on Bass, and Justin Ahiyon on Drums/Percussion, the three musicians cite their influences as including The Bad Plus, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, King Crimson and Tool—but a major source of their musical power can be attributed to a trip the band took to India, where they studied the complex tala (rhythm) of North India, and the micro-tonal scale structure and melodic ornamentations of South India. Guitarist Gabriel Marin, recently highlighted in Guitar Player Magazine, says, “Our music combines influences from Turkish, Bulgarian, North and South Indian styles with jazz and fusion, and then we filter it through our own heavy rock and psychedelic sounds and approaches.”

Over the past few years this trio has toured the United States numerous times and toured through the Middle East and Europe performing in Israel, Turkey & Germany. Consider the Source has performed alongside such luminaries as Victor Wooten, Wayne Krantz, Kris Myers (of Umphrey’s McGee), Wyclef Jean (of The Fugee’s), Freak Kitchen, U-Melt at Bowery Ballroom NYC, Klezmer Giant Andy Statman, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Garaj Mahal, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, GE Smith (Saturday Night Live Band), Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, The Heavy Pets, Schleigho, The Brew, Kung Fu and many others. They’ve appeared at numerous festivals including Burning Man, Mid Summer Meltdown, The Big Up, Dogwood Festival (NC), PowWow Festival (MD), NYC Fret-Less Guitar Fest, NYC’s Howl Festival, the NY Gypsy Festival and the East Village Arts Festival. Their music has been aired nationally on Fox 5′s Fearless Music TV show, on which they won the award for best unsigned independent act.

Consider the Source’s new album “That’s What’s Up” is a testament to the band members core beliefs & values about their art and expression. They continue forging new sounds and unique song structures, fusing foreign time signatures with exotic rhythms and refining a dialogue-based form of improvising where the rhythms are the words, the notes are the feelings and the dynamics convey the intensity. The trio has been taking this music around the world, driven by a fearless desire to be themselves and deliver their sound as honestly as they can in the pure rawness of the “moment”.

2012 is already shaping up to be an epic year for the band as their schedule is already filling up with national and international tour dates and festivals. In 2012, Consider the Source goes global! Stay tuned and we’ll see you out there…

Telesma

The Telesma experience is an ecstatic trans-cultural phenomenon with a highly infectious and danceable beat. Exploding on the Baltimore music scene in 2002, it soon developed a loyal local fan base and then shook the underground festival scene from coast to coast.

Telesma’s live show blurs the line between performer and audience, attracting the most creative VJs, dancers, visual artists and body artists to its shows. Every Telesma show is a vortex of creativity; a celebration of body, mind and spirit.

The didgeridoo and manDrum too. Telesma’s vast arsenal of musical finery includes instruments as divergent as the didgeridoo, kubing (bamboo mouth harp from the Philippines), to electronic and tribal drums and the manDrum, one of the inventions of Telesma’s guitarist, as well as bass, keyboards, drum kit and the human voice.

Hard to describe. Dancing is mandatory. Telesma’s sound has been sometimes described as “psychedelic tribal modern world dance music, “ with diverse sounds ranging from intense polyrhythmic rock to the trance-like pulses of modern electronic dance/groove music.

“Dead Can Dance… with Teeth” — Telesma has been compared to Dead Can Dance, Pink Floyd, Tabla Beat Science, Amon Tobin, King Crimson, Ravi Shankar, Krishna Das, Afro-Celt Soundsystem, Bob Marley, Sun Ra Arkestra, Thievery Corporation, Tool, Mickey Hart’s Planet Drum, and Peter Gabriel, to name a few.

Telesma has performed with artists such as Shpongle, Beats Antique, EOTO, Tipper, ArcheDream For Human-Kind, Delhi2Dublin, Woodland, Bernie Worrell, See-I (featuring members of Thievery Corporation), Faun, Elliot Lip, Jim Donavan (Rusted Root), The Gypsy Nomads, HuDost and many other artists from around the world.

Telesma is: Ian Hesford (didgeridoo, kubing, dumbek, percussion) and Jason Sage (keyboards, vocals, percussion, programmer), Joanne Juskus (vocals, percussion, karatalas), Chris Mandra (guitar, analog guitar synth, the manDrum, and vocals), Bryan Jones “Jonesy” (6 string MIDI & upright basses, theremin, percussion), and Brandon Wildman (drum kit, percussion, electronic drums) to complete the lineup.

Tony Vacca

Tony Vacca is an innovative American percussionist with Jazz and World Music roots going back to 1972. Over the course of his career, he has made a habit of pushing the already adventurous conventions of World Music into new territory, both as a soloist and as the leader of his World Rhythms Ensemble. He is part of a wave of 20th century musicians whose work has fueled the rediscovery of the power of the drum, and the power of music to build global common ground. His fourteen trips to West Africa have contributed to his unique approach to playing the balafon, and to his depth of knowledge regarding African and American musical traditions.

HuDost

HuDost is living proof that the whole really is greater than the sum of its parts, pulling together musical styles as diverse as the jellies in Marco Polo’s kitchen cupboard, they weave a seamless tapestry that renders tears and laughter in listeners and cultivates that nameless longing that abides somewhere in all our hearts.

As a commanding Experimental Indie World Rock group, HuDost is known for letting the music speak for itself. Their latest release, entitled “Waking the Skeleton Key”, mixed by Oz Fritz (Tom Waits, Zakir Hussain, Primas) contains the first songs written by lead singer Moksha Sommer since she underwent brain surgery to have a tumor removed which impacted her language abilities. Music was her primary tool in fully regaining all that was lost and continuing to grow as a musician and a lyricist. Both her resilience and the fragility of life come through in these songs. It also contains 2 remixes from HuDost’s last full length album, “Trapeze”, produced by Grammy Winner Malcolm Burn (Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Peter Gabriel), HuDost has been getting rave reviews across the board from critics who praise the album’s versatility and musicianship, saying “It’s nice to see a band like this who don’t sacrifice content for commerciality yet have a theoretically almost limitless upside for hit potential.”
