“I wanted to share with you my experience last year. I had set the intention to go to Evolvefest and chant and hoop as much as possible. Well everywhere I turned offered those opportunities. I swear I would start the day off with a yoga class then wander around only to find hoop classes then wander some more right into a kirtan! It was just magical.

I was at the Bhakti Tree (I actually teach at the yoga studio where they hail from, Baltimore Yoga Village) set the night EJ left this world. I don’t need to tell you what a powerful experience that was as I remember you being there. Every person there turning their attention and energy toward EJ. What a beautiful way to exit this mortal plane. I was there with my young cousin, only 5 years old. Her mother was helping the EMT’s and this young girl was asking me all kinds of questions, “what’s going on? What’s that thing on his face? What’s that noise? Can we get closer?” She held her hands up and sent him thoughts of healing.

The next day, when I heard that he had passed, I already knew it in my heart. And there wasn’t sadness. It seemed peaceful and surrounded by love and support. I was grateful to have been present.

Now, I didn’t know EJ personally and I don’t know if this is true, but I heard that he had received a heart transplant earlier in his life. The strange thing is at this point, I had a three-year-old niece, Mya, who had been in the hospital for 6 months waiting for a heart. The morning after EJ passed, I was at my boyfriends car and I just randomly decided to pull my cell phone out of his glove box only to find that I had several missed calls and text messages.

Sometime during the night, Mya had received her heart.

Even now, almost a year later, this brings tears to my eyes. It was a true miracle to be present during one mans passing and then to see the gift that death can give. The donor who’s parents made the decision to donate their child’s organs, saved 6 lives and one of those lives was my precious niece, Mya.

When I think of Evolvefest, I think of the miracle of life. Thank you for creating a safe space for people to explore. A safe place for people to be how they are, as they are, where they are.”
